Gangs are widespread and adversely affect the quality of life within our communities with violence, drugs, and associated criminal activity. This presentation will focus on warning signs, risk factors, graffiti, street language, tattoos, and new trends of gang involvement. In particular, participants will learn the profiles of several different gangs; MS13, Tango Blasters, Los Zetas (Drug Cartel), Latin Kings, SUR 13, NORTE 14, gangs in the Military, and others.
Dwight Stewart is a Training Supervisor/ Gang Specialist with the Texas School Safety Center and former Detention Superintendent for the San Patricio County Juvenile Detention Center. Mr. Stewart is a Certified Officer Safety Trainer (Sam Houston State University), Nationally Certified Gang Awareness Trainer specializing in gangs K-12, Chinese Gangs, Military Gangs, and International Gangs (National Gang Crime Research Center, Chicago, Il), Bomb Awareness Trainer (New Mexico Tech), and Incident Command Trainer with the Texas Govenor’s Department of Emergency Management. Mr. Stewartis a former Juvenile Boot camp Administrator, Juvenile Detention Assistant Administrator, Juvenile Probation Officer and State Parole Officer (SISP Unit) and has conducted numerous school safety site assessments and specialized trainings on Gang Awareness, Bullying, Conflict Resolution, Anger Management, Crises Management planning, and Indicators of Violent Behavior for individuals nationwide. Mr. Stewart has completed FEMA’s Incident Command System (ICS) trainings for ICS 100, ICS 200, ICS 300, ICS 400, ICS 700, and ICS 800. Mr. Stewart worked over 20 years in the field of Criminal Justice and has an extensive background in youth violence prevention and school safety planning. He has served on the Board of Directors for the Comal County Teen Connection Boys and Girls Shelter, Criminal Justice Board for Del Mar College (Criminal Justice Division), Costal Bend Violent Gang Task Force, Texas Gang Investigator Association, Hays County Gang Task Force, International Latino Gang Investigators Association, National Major Gang Task Force, Travis County Underage Drinking Prevention Task Force, Guadalupe Valley Council on Drugs and Alcohol, Texas Association Against Sexual Assault, San Patricio County Safety Committee, Hays Consolidated Independent School District Drug and Gang Task Force, and the Costal Bend Safety Committee. Mr. Stewart received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminal Justice from University of Texas at San Antonio

Cancellation Policy: If the participant has already paid, he/she will be refunded half the cost of the registration fee if written notice of cancellation is received by the Correctional Management Institute of Texas no later than ten (10) business days prior to the program. No refunds are available after this date, but substitutions of attendees are permitted. If no written cancellation is received and the participant does not attend the program, the participant/agency will be required to pay 100% of the registration fee if the registration fee was not previously paid.
